Guangzhou's population in 2014 was over 13 million. The urban population of Guangzhou is 11,070,654, with only a select handful of people still living and working in the rural areas of the city. It is estimated that in Guangzhou, there is approximately 1,708 people per square kilometre, compared to Australia where there is approximately 3 people per square KILOMETRE!
Many people chose to live in the populated mega cities, due to job opportunities, more freedom, or better health care and facilities. Although, living in rural/country areas provides the residents with farming and agriculture jobs and a larger amount of space. They may also decide to stay in the same location all of their life, due to traditions and certain beliefs, or wanting family close.
